Clamp on ultrasonic flow meter is suitable for flow measurement in full water pipe, it is easy to install and no contact with liquid directly; It can measure the medium that is not easy to touch or observe. Usually, ultrasonic flowmeter clamp on can work for very long time.
When the poor signal occured for flowmeter, user can try doing below points .
1. Ensure the pipe is full of water ( It must be full water pipe, not partially filled / not full pipe ) ;
2. For non invasive flowmeter, if the measured pipe is too close to the wall, clamp on transducers can be also installed the pipe with inclined angle, it is not a must for installing flow transducers in horizontal pipe, in this case, we can choose “Z” method to install it ;
3. Choose the installation points where the pipe surface is homogeneous and uniform compared with other pipe surfaces, then coat enough couplant and install non invasive sensors .
4. Remove flow transducers to find the installation place with good signal to avoid missing the place of excellent measurement value where the strong signal can be received due to the scaling of the inner wall of the pipeline or the local deformation of the pipeline, which causes the ultrasonic beam to reflect the predicted area;
5. The metal pipe with serious inner wall scaling can be hit to make the scaling part fall off or crack, pls noted that if this, sometimes does not help the transmission of ultrasonic wave because of the gap between the scaling and the inner wall.
Since external clamp on ultrasonic flow meter is commonly used to measure dirty liquids, it often works wrong due to accumulating the layer on the inner pipe wall of the sensor after working for a period of time, We suggest that the filter devices can be installed upstream if possible, the instruments will work better and keep stable for flow measurement value .
