Ultrasonic Flow Meters

20+ Years Manufacturing Experience

The working frequency of ultrasonic flow meter

The working frequency used by ultrasonic flowmeters is usually between 1MHz and 5MHz, of which 2MHz is the most common frequency. Different flowmeter manufacturers may choose different frequencies, depending on their technology and product design. However, it is very important to choose the right operating frequency because different frequencies can provide different advantages and disadvantages.
At lower frequencies, such as about 1MHz, the measurement accuracy is higher. This is because low-frequency signals decay more slowly, can travel farther, and, for most fluids, will be reflected multiple times in the fluid. This can provide more data, which improves calculation accuracy.
However, in low temperature or high temperature, containing a variety of gases or high concentration gas environment, the use of low frequency ultrasonic flowmeters will cause some problems. In these cases, the ultrasonic signal may be absorbed or scattered by gases in the environment, thus affecting the accuracy of the measurement.
On the contrary, at higher frequencies, such as 5MHz, the meter can be better adapted to the above environment. High-frequency signals decay faster and penetrate the gas better, and are not easily absorbed or scattered by the gas, thus having better performance. However, high-frequency ultrasonic signals decay faster and lose more energy during transmission.
In general, the selection of the operating frequency of the ultrasonic flowmeter needs to consider the actual application environment and measurement requirements. In general, 2MHz ultrasonic flowmeters are the most commonly used and can meet the needs of most flow measurements.
