Comparison of ultrasonic level meter and conventional level meter

In the industrial field, a liquid level meter is a common measuring device used to measure the height and volume of liquids. Common level meters include ultrasonic level meters, capacitive level meters, pressure level meters and so on. Among them, ultrasonic liquid level meter is a non-contact liquid level meter, with high measurement accuracy, easy to use and other advantages, is widely used in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, water conservancy and other fields. This paper will focus on the ultrasonic level meter, and compare it with the conventional level meter, and analyze its advantages and disadvantages.

First, the working principle of ultrasonic liquid level meter

Ultrasonic level meter is a device that uses sound waves to measure. By sending out ultrasonic signals, the signals are reflected back when they meet the surface of the liquid being measured, and after the reflected signals are received by the receiver, the depth of the liquid is measured by calculating the propagation time of the signals. Since the speed of sound waves is known, the depth of the liquid can be calculated from the travel time and the speed of sound.

Second, the advantages of ultrasonic level meter

1. Non-contact measurement: The probe of the ultrasonic level meter is not in direct contact with the liquid to be measured, so it can avoid the influence of some chemical corrosion and temperature changes and other factors, especially suitable for measurement in corrosive, high temperature, high pressure and other harsh environments.

2. High accuracy: The measurement accuracy of the ultrasonic level meter is high, generally within the error range of ±0.5%, which can meet the high precision measurement requirements.

3. Wide range of application: ultrasonic level meter can be applied to liquids of different density, viscosity and temperature, so it has a wide range of application.

4. Easy maintenance: the probe of the ultrasonic level meter generally does not need to be cleaned frequently, and the service life is long, so the maintenance is more convenient.

Third, the shortcomings of ultrasonic level meter

1. Higher price: Compared with some conventional level meters, the price of ultrasonic level meters is higher, which may increase the cost of the entire project.

2. High installation requirements: The installation requirements of the ultrasonic level meter are high, and factors such as the Angle and distance of the probe need to be taken into account, otherwise the measurement accuracy will be affected.

3. Limited measuring range: The measuring range of the ultrasonic level meter is limited, and generally can only measure the depth of the liquid within a few meters.

Four, ultrasonic level meter and conventional level meter comparison

1. Contact and non-contact: the conventional liquid level meter generally adopts the contact measurement method, which requires the sensor to be inserted into the measured liquid, which will be affected by the corrosion, precipitation, viscosity and so on of the measured liquid. The ultrasonic level meter adopts a non-contact measurement method, which can avoid these effects and is suitable for more scenarios.

2, accuracy: the accuracy of conventional liquid level meter is affected by a variety of factors, such as the sensitivity of the sensor, the nature of the liquid, etc., the general accuracy is low. The ultrasonic level meter has high measurement accuracy and can meet the high precision measurement requirements.

3. Scope of application: The scope of application of conventional liquid level meters is narrow, and can only be applied to some specific scenarios. The ultrasonic level meter has a wide range of application and can be applied to liquids with different densities, viscosities and temperatures.

4. Maintenance cost: The probe of the conventional level meter generally needs to be cleaned frequently, the service life is short, and the maintenance cost is high. The probe of the ultrasonic level meter has a long service life and is more convenient to maintain.

In summary, the ultrasonic level meter has the advantages of non-contact measurement, high precision, wide application range, easy maintenance, etc., although the price is higher, but in the long run, its performance and maintenance costs are more advantageous. When selecting a liquid level meter, it should be selected according to the specific measurement needs and environmental conditions.
